Deyle Mobilizations are a manual therapy approach to physical therapy that uses manual treatment for patients with knee osteoarthritis. These exercises help to increase strength and movement, decrease pain, and improve joint functionality. Functional activities are tailored to each patient and emphasize strategic timing of exercises, the importance of mid-range movements and end-range challenges, and effective functional positioning.
Each activity requires deliberate design. Strength is gained through increasing range of motion and participating in every day activities, such as walking or biking, in order to maintain motion and strength. Some studies suggest a 2-5-year postponement of surgery using these techniques. Michael and Chip of Turning Point Physical Therapy are trained in the Deyle Mobilizations and can offer these techniques if you or a loved one is suffering from knee osteoarthritis.
