Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can be very complex as the shoulder has more range of motion than any other joint in the human body! At Turning Point Physical Therapy we have many tools to help speed up the recovery process.

EVALUATION

I was evaluating a shoulder today and found that the patient had a positive rotator cuff test. He also had the classic rotator cuff tear report, moderate to severe pain at night that radiates into the biceps muscle belly. He had only 10 lbs. of strength in his rotator cuff muscles. This should test out at 40 lbs. at least. His range of motion was limited as well, as he demonstrated a frozen shoulder pattern (limited flexion, abduction, and external rotation). He also had C-spine involvement with limited AROM of the C-spine. Further, he had hypo reflexes indication of nerve compression. Finally, he complained of radicular symptoms for the C-spine.

TREATMENT

1.This patient will need mobilization of the GH joint to break up adhesions

2.He will also need the Dora Partridge taping techniques, as his shoulder joint was not in the proper alignment

3.A home program to strengthen his rotator cuff and postural muscles

4.Class four-laser treatment to get rid of the tendonitis and inflammation

5.C-spine work including traction and the McKenzie program to stop the radiating pain, pins, and needles

6.Hands on work for the trigger points and muscle tension

7.Biofeedback so patient can reset his regulation of the muscles

8.If a patient is committing to completing their homework, they will get better faster!
